Every GCSE chemistry student knows that hydrogen (H2) is the smallest, lightest molecule out there. But, so what?
Unlike fossil fuels, hydrogen emits just water vapour. But its main attraction is that it offers a clean, flexible option for storing and transporting energy, joining up producers and users as never before. Huge opportunities exist in hydrogen, something I’ve discussed elsewhere in engineering and political terms. Here, I’d like to summarise these and highlight where the UK needs to act now to become a global leader as the economy emerges from COVID.
